Sennen Nature Action Group (SNAG) made the most of another dry and bright morning on 29th March to get some very satisfying weeding and planting done in the village.
The rain held off and the morning’s SNAG volunteers got to work weeding through the soil of the new planting area at Mayon verge and deadheading a few of the daffodils that have brightened up the village over the last month.
Almost 70 plants purchased with funding under the Sennen Infrastructure and Accessibility Improvement Project were set out and planted ready for a lovely show of pollinator friendly flowers later in the year.
A few primroses were also planted around the new trees. The three Hawthorns, a Rowan and a Poplar also purchased through the Parish Council’s recent project are beginning to bud after being expertly dug in by Cllr Bevan and Patrick Roberts in recent weeks.
The next stage of work was weeding out the Alexanders on the A30 hedge and making space for some plants. Osteospurnum and Erigeron plants brought on from cuttings were nestled into the spaces made and will hopefully take and flower later in the year. The edge of the pavement was cleaned up and it was lovely to see the clover (sown by SNAG last year) flowering in front of the hedge.
Our new bus stop became the refreshments stop – a perfect spot for teas, coffees and hot cross buns!
Thank you to all the volunteers who joined in for a fun morning getting such a lot done. Thanks also to Cormac for loaning all the tools once again and taking away the green waste.
