Sennen Parish Council has worked to secure Community Capacity Funding to enable us to carry out a feasibility study for the improvement of Sennen Beach Car Park Toilets. This £10,562 funding has been allocated from Cornwall Council’s Community Capacity Fund. The Community Capacity Fund is part of the Good Growth Programme, which is delivering the UK Shared Prosperity Fund in Cornwall and Isles of Scilly.
To prepare a feasibility study for the provision and enhancement of public amenities in Sennen Parish. To commission architects’ drawings and plans and submit planning permission for the design of these amenities, with the aim of improving and adding value to the current facilities.To obtain legal and professional advice to facilitate implementation of the project.
The Parish Council has been working tirelessly to secure the provision of the public toilets and the car park they sit in (which are owned by Cornwall Council). Members resolved to take over the freehold at a recent Full Council Meeting and once satisfied that it is in the best interests of the Parish. This will allow us to explore the possibility of improving the toilet facilities and secure funds for such a large capital project. There will be no income from the car park to support the toilets as the are is leased to a third party, so we need to explore options of how they can be sustained going forward.
The current ladies & gents separate facilities are not able to be opened this year due to the condition of the roof which was highlighted in a recent buildings survey. The multi-user/accessible block will be opened again this year and managed by the Parish Council for the season. The fittings in that block struggled to cope with demand and misuse during the 2023 season and though repairs have been carried out, we anticipate difficulties this year too.
The feasibility study will allow us to plan ahead and enable us to make prudent decisions regarding the future of the facilities in the Parish.
